Liquid Machines Announces Availability of Document Control for SolidWorks 2008 Users

Leading Enterprise Rights Management Solution Enables Information Protection for Engineers and Designers Throughout the Global Design, Development and Manufacturing Process

Waltham, MA - October 9, 2007

Liquid Machines®, Inc., the leader in Enterprise Rights Management (ERM) solutions, announced today the availability of Liquid Machines Document Control™ for SolidWorks® 2008. Integrated with support for Windows Rights Management Services (RMS), Liquid Machines provides a comprehensive information protection solution for users of the industry’s leading 3D CAD software, enabling design and development data to be shared securely using native SolidWorks files and RMS protection without the loss of intellectual property.

“Product design, development and manufacturing are collaborative processes that often involve sharing sensitive files, increasing the risk of information misuse,” said Efrat Ravid, Director of Marketing and Alliances, SolidWorks Corporation. “Companies use SolidWorks 2008 to create some of the most innovative products the world has ever seen. Because of the nature of the information being accessed and shared during the product development, it is critical that companies prioritize effective data security and protect themselves from data theft and prevent unauthorized access. Liquid Machines helps our customers rest easy knowing that their critical IP is persistently protected no matter where it travels.”

In an effort to drive down costs and improve production efficiencies, manufacturers are turning to global product design and development strategies. These approaches require product definitions to be formalized digitally and stored as part of the CAD file. Protecting the subassemblies, design equations, engineering constraints, measurements and geometric dimensioning data contained within today’s CAD files is imperative. This type of information provides insight into the body of design knowledge and processes applied to product creation, which in most cases is as important as the design itself. Consequently, loss of CAD information can result in lost product sales, a decrease in customer loyalty, commoditization, margin reduction and overall market share decline.

“Liquid Machines enables SolidWorks customers to securely collaborate on product design and development information with a globally dispersed workforce, its partners and customers,” said Ed Gaudet, Senior Vice President of Corporate Development and Marketing at Liquid Machines. “Such workflows require CAD files and design information to be sent using email, portable USB storage devices and other transport mechanisms, putting a company’s intellectual property at risk. With our unique support for RMS, Liquid Machines provides the most comprehensive global product design and development information protection solution for SolidWorks’ customers.”

Through the unique pairing of Liquid Machines and Microsoft Rights Management Services (RMS), SolidWorks users can control access and usage of electronic content. Liquid Machines’ unique approach puts the protection and control with the information itself—meaning that the access and usage permissions remain with the data throughout its entire lifecycle— as it travels from machine to machine, within and beyond the organization—or if attempts are made to copy or excerpt it. Even derived and mirrored parts will maintain the security settings of their original parts. This system protects data from falling into the wrong hands and from being manipulated – whether copied, pasted or saved in an alternate format—and does so in a way that doesn’t disrupt or complicate authorized users’ work routines. In addition, auditing and reporting features inform content owners of who accessed, or attempted to access, their protected information.

Wood Group Pressure Control (WGPC) is a subsidiary company of John Wood Group, an international energy services company with $3.5bn in sales and over 20,000 employees, which has been using Liquid Machines to protect its intellectual property since December 2006. “Liquid Machines is a critical component of our information protection program,” stated Scott Kelley, IT Manager, Wood Group Pressure Control. “Their newly released SolidWorks support enables us to extend our investment in Microsoft RMS and persistently protect our most valuable intellectual property.”
