Liquid Machines Extends Its Award-winning Enterprise Rights Management Software Platform to Support New Operating Systems, Applications, Mobile Devices and Global High Availability for Enterprise Deployments

Major Liquid Machines ERM Platform Upgrade Brings Powerful New Features and Support for Adobe Acrobat and Reader 9, Windows 2008 Server, SQL Server 2008, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, and BlackBerry Smartphones to Microsoft Active Directory Rights Management Services

RSA Conference, Booth #1152, SAN FRANCISCO - April 20, 2009
At the 2009 RSA Conference, Liquid Machines, the leader in Enterprise Rights Management solutions, today unveiled major new releases of its flagship enterprise rights management (ERM) software platform. These new releases extend the Liquid Machines ERM platform to the industry’s most current computing architectures, operating systems, databases, applications and mobile devices.

The Liquid Machines ERM Platform provides client, server and infrastructure-based software products and integration APIs that enable persistent information protection. Only ERM persistently controls access to and usage of electronic files regardless of where they exist without changing the way users work. Built with support for Microsoft Active Directory Rights Management Services (AD RMS), customers use Liquid Machines software to secure and control their most critical information, including intellectual property, executive and board communications, customer data and human resources information, while enabling secure collaboration and strict adherence to regulatory compliance.

“We’re delivering a significant release of the Liquid Machines ERM platform, enabling our customers to easily scale their global deployments to hundreds of thousands of users,” said Michael Ruffolo, Liquid Machines CEO. “Our global customers will benefit from our new support for leading applications such as Adobe Acrobat and Reader 9, the latest BlackBerry smartphones and the newest operating systems and databases from Microsoft.”

Today at the America’s Growth Capital Information Security Conference in San Francisco, Ruffolo will discuss the new capabilities of the Liquid Machines ERM Platform and outline his company’s vision for integrating ERM with data loss prevention (DLP) solutions (see press release Liquid Machines CEO to Unveil Company’s Strategy for Integration with Data Loss Prevention Solutions at the 2009 America’s Growth Capital Conference).

“Increased data portability mandates companies not only protect confidential data throughout the document’s lifecycle but also monitor its usage within and out of the enterprise. The continued integration of data loss prevention and enterprise rights management solutions allow organizations to effectively address this difficult task and is gaining momentum within the industry,” said Nick Selby, Vice President and Research Director of the Enterprise Security Practice at the industry analyst firm, The 451 Group. “Liquid Machines continues to aggressively drive its enterprise rights management software roadmap into the data loss prevention market with the promise of providing companies with the persistent protections they need to guard against the inappropriate or unintended disclosure of confidential enterprise information.”

The Liquid Machines ERM Platform consists of two product brands, Liquid Machines Document Control and Email Control, and includes the following new features and enterprise-scalability enhancements:

  • Support for New Hardware and Operating Systems enables users to host the Enterprise Policy Management server component of Liquid Machines Document Control on 64-bit computers running Microsoft Windows Server 2008. Business users can easily create and manage ERM role-based policies backed by Microsoft Active Directory Rights Management Services (AD RMS), which include dynamic revocation, and compliance-level auditing and reporting on information access and usage. Access to the Enterprise Policy Management component is browser-based and adds support for Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0 in this release. Enhanced Search capabilities allow enterprises to easily manage hundreds of policies across advanced workflows.
  •

  • Global High Availability and Horizontal Scaling enhancements allow for large-scale and complex deployments. With new support for Microsoft SQL Server 2008, system administrators can configure distributed, replicated databases for sites in different geographic locations, enabling high-availability while eliminating dependencies between global sites due to wide-area network latency or outages. Administrators can distribute Liquid Machines servers to enable remote clients to operate if their local server loses connection to the master server. Additional performance improvements have been made to double the throughput of client and server communications.
  •

  • Domain- and Group-level Roles make it easy for policy administrators to create reusable roles across the enterprise. ERM policies contain one or more roles (e.g. author, reviewer, approver, executive, auditor, compliance, etc.); roles define those authorized users or groups that have access to information and their specific set of permissions, or usage rights (e.g. read only, edit, print, expiration, etc.). Users and groups are provided directly from the company’s directory service (i.e. Active Directory). Administrators can define reusable roles that are available to all policies (i.e. domain-level roles) or only for policies in a particular policy group (i.e. group-level roles). Through the intuitive web-based user interface, policy administrators can view the available reusable roles, simply click on the role name displayed and add users or groups. Administration can be delegated on several levels including membership management (i.e. adding or removing individual users into or out of one or more policies).
  •

  • Support for New Applications brings Liquid Machines Document Control client functionality to Adobe Acrobat and Reader 9 (Professional and Standard editions, including foreign language editions). Liquid Machines enables the native Adobe Acrobat and Reader applications to create rights-managed PDF files and portfolios. Portfolios allow users to include one or more files created in any application or format. For example, users can create a PDF Portfolio which includes Office documents, emails, spreadsheets, rich media (e.g. Flash SWF or FLV) and PowerPoint presentations. With Liquid Machines, business and technical professionals can use the Portfolio container to electronically share multiple files securely by applying information protection such as Microsoft AD RMS. Liquid Machines protects all files within a Portfolio at rest or in transit using industry-standard encryption; individual files can also be persistently protected while “in use” with ERM controls.
  •

  • Major Upgrade to Liquid Machines SharePoint Gateway delivers unique support for dynamic, role-based ERM policies with Microsoft AD RMS (see press release Liquid Machines Announces New Role-based Enterprise Rights Management Policies and Compliance Reporting for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007). ERM policies map directly to SharePoint permission levels for document libraries, enable advanced enforcement options and application-level auditing, and dynamically synchronize policy updates that occur to files in use outside of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (i.e. downloaded to disk or checked-out).
  •

  • Support for New BlackBerry Smartphones running BlackBerry® OS v4.1 and above. Liquid Machines adds support for the latest BlackBerry smartphones including the BlackBerry® Storm™, BlackBerry® Bold™, BlackBerry® Curve™ series, BlackBerry® Pearl™ series and BlackBerry® Pearl™ Flip smartphones (see press release Liquid Machines Extends Its Industry-Leading Support of BlackBerry Smartphones for Microsoft Active Directory Rights Management Services to More Than 400 File Formats). With this new release, Liquid Machines adds advanced features that allow persistent protection of attachments saved in more than 400 different file formats.
